WK 3: website analysis homework

Analysing website for WK3 homework:
Amrita: Kowtow website (retail: clothing)

The site is very minimalist which reflects the clothing brand; Kowtow sells sustainable wardrobe staples. Everything is laid out in a fairly structured manner, fitting to a clear grid, with each photo being given plenty of space. The text in comparison to each image is much smaller, giving the photos even more space to breathe. All of the colour comes through in the photographs, allowing the viewer to focus all of their attention on how the actual products work.

Small details add more interest to this simple website. For example, when you reach the top of the page from scrolling up the logo gets bigger before going back to normal size. When scrolling over each navigation title the below bar extends with more detail, with each title again being neatly separated out in a clear grid. The amount of detail in the navigation site, although simple, makes it very easy to navigate the website.

When scrolling over an image of a model wearing Kowtow clothing, another image showing a different pose in the same outfit is shown.

When searching for clothing, you are given the option to view the clothes on a model or on their own. There are also added search options to refine what you are looking for - e.g colour, or size.

Ella:
Wellington City Council website: information
I really love this website because of the way it stores so much information in a neat and easy to navigate way. The council has so much information to get across to the public and I feel like this is organised in a way that is easy to get around.

The website also has consistency and feels very "Wellington" throughout it does a great job of showcasing the city and its events. The news events section is really well done and easy to navigate.

The four-column grid runs throughout the website and keeps the structure strong. The text also works really well together with larger headings and the information being a lot smaller.

Development of visual style

We've developed a basic digital storyboard for our new animation, which has changed since the interim. This starts off with a circle growing out of nothing, then bouncing around, pulsing, growing etc as the colours behind change with each main movement. Once the circle has grown to size it grows the black rectangular lines, which will individually move up and down to the music (we are considering using all 3 of Warren's songs that we have chosen). These lines will eventually turn into our logo, and the final slide will show the Bats 30th anniversary logo.

Interim 1

We received positive feedback in our interim on our logo, name and general visual concept. Our feedback for our animation was that our theme is rhythmic and abstract, and our animation should reflect this. We were shown video examples of really simple illustrations moving to sound and music, which we can take on board to show our life journey in a much more simple manner.

Lab Week 2: Basic animation

Animation Working

As our main target audience is those that have grown up with Bats (older generations), we are making an animation to use as a Facebook advertisement.

Reverse Brief

Reverse Brief

Design a website, poster, and animation to celebrate Bats' 30th year anniversary. This event will host three plays that are interpretations of Warren Maxwell's songs and lyrics. Choose these three songs that will be used for the plays and decide on a common theme that will inform the title, as well as guide the chosen visual style. Include:
- A title that is easy to remember, embodies the concept and visualises the essence of the plays
- A transmedia campaign that tells the story of Bats' journey, and is appropriate in terms of the target audience.
- A visual system that is consistent with the chosen season across different media - this includes the choice of typography, styles, colours, imagery...

(We have chosen to design a website, posters and animate advertisements for social media: e.g Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as this is appropriate for the target audience.)

Season Title

Season Title

We have decided to name our season "The Bats Season of Rythm" we felt that this reflected our themes of the celebration of life particularly in reference to life cycles and the ups and downs of life being used as a metaphor for different beats and tempo especially with this season being based on music.

We also thought this could be really interesting to explore visually and it will be interesting to add sound into our animation and other forms of media as another visual layer.

Target Audience

Target Audience

- People that have grown up with Bats: celebrating the cycle of life
- New Bats audience members (younger)/new generation that are starting on their journey with Bats
-Trying to create something that relates to all stages of life so everyone can relate to the plays in some way
- Mainly focusing on a social media marketing campaign (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) alongside a few posters at bus stops and in the city where these people will be
- Because we are looking at a wide target audience, the aesthetic of these advertisements and posters must be attractive, approachable and vibrant to multiple age groups. For example, a minimalist, modern design approach is not appropriate in this context.

12. The use of lines in this poster really evokes the feeling of movement which I think will work really well for our poster. The text is pretty small so I don't think this overall style would work to get all of the information that we need across.
1. This poster is super fun and playful which draws the eye in. Reading the text almost feels like a game or a puzzle that you need to figure out.

The use of bold colours in all of these posters will work for out concept they also all look like music posters which is the style we are going for.
